First of all, to "Mr Boost" I'm not going to even make fun of you. You must be from a MAJORLY small, hic town. Out of all my friends, I drive one of the LEAST expensive cars. My $70,000 Viper is not much compared to the new SL600 roadster owned by my best friend who's 16, or the '99 Lamborghini Diablo VT or the '99 Ferrari F355 Spider, the '98 Porsche 911 turbo, '93 Ferrari 512 M, or the '97 Lotus Esprit V8 or the ton's of BMW's, Mercedes, Porsche's and Vette's ALL owned by teens I know across the country. FYI, insurance was never a problem and my insurance is about $3,500 a year. Second, to "Viper 1" it's a shame that people like you try to associate with people like me. I respect all people and apprciate everybody's opinion's, but it's hard to contain one's self when you claim to be like me and then cuss and self destruct your claims like being an "A+ student" if you aren't kidding then I'll give you my e-mail address and you can send me a pic of your "Viper". Then there is "Mr Viper". You must be from the same small town as "Mr Boost"... Your names ARE similiar... Finally, I would just like to say that if there is young Viper owner's (or someone who own's any exotic) I'm putting together a little cannonball run and you can post me a message if you are interested. This post board keeps me laughing. What a riot, a 18 year old with a Viper? Oh, wait, wake up little boy, that wet mess in your pants is a about as close to a real experiance with a Viper or any other car worth more than 1500$. If you hit the gas, and then could not controll the Viper, and wrecked it into a ditch, would that be pre-mature acceleration? LOL:)

One last note, glass packs on a Viper? Is that supposed to be cool? Really children, do your homework, the Viper allready sounds strange to start with, I'm sure Borla or others have exhaust systems that make the most of what a Viper has to offer, and no wanker teeny bopper glasspacks are going to sound decient, or give the best power over the stock system. (They are best for old muscle cars, see my prior post on that issue, V8's can sound nice w/glasspacks, but I like a nice mellow tone that only a well thought out exhaust system can provide.) The V10 is a adapted truck motor that just plain sounds weird. (unless it is the wail of a 18000 RPM F1 engine!) Kinda like someone glued two 5 cyc AUDI engines together, especially in the RT10 with the side pipes. (VRoom, Vroom, listen to my powerfull dual AUDI engine sounds.... ) The coupe is much better sounding where they exit in the rear v/s the side pipes. Well, I'm exhausted.. LOL so keep posting and I'll keep laughing at all the ignorant remarks from teens who clearly were not paying attention in English class. LEARN HOW TO WRITE! It is a skill that will serve you well, and might even let you get a job that can someday let you buy a Viper if that is what you desire. By the way, TURBO's rule. (Raced a Syclone, Buick GNX, TT Supra or any other nicely presurized car lately?) I'll keep watching for a GTS-R, it will be a blast.

Hello Vipers:) Nice to see that people like Rory in the last post are enjoying there ride, whatever the make or model. Well, keep haveing fun, and remember, turbos rule for the street. (In any aplication, see the tt vette mod, or any other streetable supercar, and likely you will find some form of forced induction.) It all comes down to how much air/fuel you can pump through the motor with each revolution of the crank. (displacement or forced induction, either way makes more power, but only forced gives a better mix of power when you need it, and driveability when you don't. A side benefit is better gas mileage. Anyone filled up a Viper lately? (Of course if you own one, the cost of gas is a minor detail:) LOL See you all next time.

TNT King Snake viper's ass? look it up in car and driver. the vette got 11.4 sec @ 134 MPH, while the viper got 12.1 sec @ 131 mph. CORVETTES ARE THE MONGOOSE AMONG THE VIPERS!!!!!!

I own a viper and the car is the fastest one on the street i have been challenged by the vettes on the street to a drag race and i excepted and of course i smoked them off the line which really P***ed them off because a V-10 against a little V-8 i think it is really unfair but i don't back down to a race no matter who it is against. Unless it is a Mclaren F1 then i would back down (hell the thing has a lot more horsepower and it goes a hell of a lot faster) but other than that DODGE VIPERS ARE THE BEST

Hello Vipers:) SO, 1100 hp at the crank eh on your 800TT viper. Not too bad for 8 liters of displacement. Except you failed to mention that the mods being discussed cost more than the car. I'm talking about daily driven cars, with compliant suspensions that don't make Kidney Dr.'s very rich, that have a idle speeds below 1100rpm, and are not so loud you can still listen to your favoite tunes.
What I also did not like was the anti-asian tone of some of the posts on this site. It is too bad that narrow minded rednecks who still are pulling the fuel injection systems off there Camaros and Mustangs and putting good old carbs back on, can't just enjoy hot rodding any other cars. By the way, my first car was a 68 Corvair Corsa with the 140 flat 6. It was a great car, and with a few mods, supprised many v8's of my friends. I've also owned a 73 Camaro that was lots of fun, and other GM iron that served me well. In the 80's the quality of domestic cars quite frankly sucked, so I bought my first Toyota, and have been impressed ever since. I also love hot rods, and own a Q45 sedan that is great for stealth driveing as not many people know what they are, and especially the cops don't take much notice. Pretty sad when my Q takes a unsuspecting Mustang or Camaro at the stoplight races:) Now, that would be a fun car to supercharge:) So, Viper drivers and other post people at this site, enjoy hotrodding, but watch out for quiet un-assumeing looking cars:) You might never know what just blew your doors off, at least untill the next stoplight when you can catch up and find out:)

I just think that it's interesting that people use such a usefull tool as a bulletin to use say the crude and uneducated, if not outright racist, things that they do. One person's views shouldn't necessarily alienate another's. The Dodge Viper is obviously a very capable car in its own right, as is the McLaren F1, Acura NSX, Ferrari F355, and many others of the supercar genre. I may only be eighteen years old, but I am old enough to realize that ranting on a public bulletin is not going to change anybody's way of thinking, besides maybe casting a negative light upon whatever it is that the ranter is supporting. I think that we all need to grow up a bit.

why are ppls ragging on Vipers, especially on a Viper site? looks like ppls are just getting violent and have to let the other car site know that their cars suck.

you know, Hondas are speed density EFI. that means they work best stock and when you change stock parts you screwup what the ECU is thinking. so stock speed density is the worst to mod. gotta go DFI(which is a self-programmed speed density)

anyways, ppls compare turbo cars with N/A cars and think that is legit, especially pro-import. wrong, it's all about classes and rules.

so how about comparing turbo with turbo.
SVSi has a twin turbo Viper setup that cranks out 1100 hp and does 11s in street trim. drag setup would be faster. go tube chassis and gut the interior and even faster.

Ok, I was just reading more of the posts, and clearly the school system here in this country is in sorry shape. First, any wannabe pimpley teenage wanker that can't even write a simple Post obviously does not drive a Viper, or any car worth more than his 5.00 per hour job at Mc D's can provide:) LOL I would suspect that most of the people makeing big HP claims are really putting around in old Dodge Turbo Lazers with beat up old 2.2L smokers. Now, I'm not saying that the 2.2 turbo was not a motor without some power potential, but the teenyboppers working at McD's are not the ones usually driveing any correctly modified cars. Case in point, I see these guys in Neon's and Civic's lowered to the point where a standard speed bump becomes a 2 min ordeal to cross? LOL what a joke. Keep the suspension stock height, upgrade the roll bars, rims and tires, and not only will you enjoy driveing again, but you also will watch your silly ass friends in there "slammed" cars grow smaller by the second when the road gets twisty:) Case in Point, my Supra is stock ride height, stock springs, but struts, roll bars and tires are much more fun:0 Great part is, no one, includeing the local cops are any wiser to the fact. Next is "normal" engine upgrades. First, buy a car that has potential. I personally like turbos, but hey, if you like displacement, buy an old big block late 60's or early 70's muscle car for 3k, then put a modern F/I setup from Holly on it, and enjoy playing with lesser cars who are left in your dust wondering what the heck happend. (keep it somewhat stock looking, and you can re-sale the car for 10 grand or better when you are ready to move up to a better handleing car, or one with a turbo(s) and more power.) Just in closeing, I see the Aussies makeing a point about late model stock car raceing down under. It is true that many cars that don't make it to our shores are pretty supprising when you don't have the PC motors we get here in the States. (Like a 350hp AWD Subaru? That could be fun the next time it snows:) And to the Illiteriate red neck that keeps makeing the "Jap" and "Slant" comments? Hello, are you stupid? Hi viper owners. I just thought I'd tell you a little story. Last night, I had my first run in with a viper gts. (blue with the white raceing stripes?) Anyway, sorry to say, my stock looking 94TT Supra with over 750 rwhp put your sorry snake to rest:) I must say however that it was more of a thrill than the usuall thrashing handed out to the local C5's and F-body's. The good news is none of us are driveing Mustangs:) LOL They don't even usually rate for much, even the newer Cobra. What a joke. Well have fun, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one of the Henessy rigs, that could actually be a race. (at least to 60mph, after that, TURBO's rule, and the 60 to 120 zone is mine:)

His engine was design by some Japanese guy who's only made 10 of these specific engines. My b/f's car isn't working right, the car will start but,

ATTENTION MIKE-
First off, HP per liter means bull shit. I have a model air plane motor that is about 2ci. And I calculated it out and it produces 175 hp per liter. WOW! Now when your little engine grows up come back and talk. Honda's are jap cars and you need to be about 4 ft tall to fit in one. Some one I know has a mitsubishi (or how ever you spell that funky jap name) and the timing "chain" (which was really rubber) broke after 40,000 miles. This cause the pistons to hit the valves and destroy that little 2 pound engine. Oh yeah, your right though, the are realy strong toys. Also, you obviously have never worked on your car yourself because if you did try you would run into a problem (if you were american), you have to have little baby jap hands to work on them. Ever looked under the hood? Its trowled off. So I will come back here and talk some more when I ride in a honda or some other jap car that can fit an american. Come back when your hampster motor grows up mike.

That price quote must have been wrong. If someone knows where to buy a GTS for $70,000, please tell me, i want one. The real price is somwhere around $80,000. Im saying Vipers are bad. I like them, but the reason they have more power is that they have 2 more cylinders. They are best suited for medium sized road coarses. They, along with the vette, are now goof for tight road coarses because they aren't agile enough. The Honda S2000 beat the vette on road altanta!. But on larges courses their power is better put to use. The problem is the Viper body really drags at high speeds.

No doubt Tim, I was just trying to add my little insight to the "why buy a Viper" question that is sometimes asked. I can only relate why I bought one. I didn't want to have to do anything to the car...and still have a heckofa fast car. (smile) You are correct in one thing...for the same money (almost)...
You quoted the Vette *about* $10K more than the GTS....So, to even the odds you'd have to let me dump that into my GTS....(sheepish grin). Even then, I (personally) think it will be a long time before there is another car that evokes the responses of the Viper. It *used* to be the Vette, but not anymore...IMHO. I am not here to bash ANY car, opinions vary and that is what makes things interesting!!!!

I HOPE a stock GTS will beat a stock 'vette. I car that costs $75-80000 can beat a car that costs $42000. But the car i was refering to costs the same as a Viper. The stock 'vette does beat the GTS in one thing, it is more aerodynomic. Viper bodies create ALOT of drag that you can see in acceleration above 130mph. The 'vette coupe hada a drag coefficient of .29 and the 'vette hardtop has one of .31 vs the Viper's .38. I know the GTS will beat a stock 'vette. You also have to look at price.

You can't compare a saleen mustang to a Viper. A mustang has a solid rear axle. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to build a car with a solid rear axle that can handle better than a Viper's race minded suspension. One of the few cars that can out perform a viper for the price of a GTS is a Ligenfelter modified twin turbo 'vette. The car was tested in Car&Driver and they list the Viper's perfomance #s there too. It beats the viper in everything except handling, which it ties it in. The only mods on the vette ate the turbos, tires (g-force KDs), and brakes (Baer 6piston front, 4piston rear) Performance---

You can't compare a saleen mustang to a Viper. A mustang has a solid rear axle. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to build a car with a solid rear axle that can handle better than a Viper's race minded suspension. One of the few cars that can out perform a viper for the price of a GTS is a Ligenfelter modified twin turbo 'vette. The car was tested in Car&Driver and they list the Viper's perfomance #s there too. It beats the viper in everything except handling, which it ties it in. The only mods on the vette ate the turbos, tires (g-force KDs), and brakes (Baer 6piston front, 4piston rear) Performance---

It is impossible to compare a prelude to a Viper. For the cost of a prelude ($22-25,000) it would be impossible to build a car that can beat a viper. There is no way your 2.2L or whatever is in there can make enough torque to beat a viper and i doubt it has 549hp. It would be almost imposible to get that much out of a 2.2L 4cly even if has forced induction. Even if it did it couldn't handle better than a Viper. The prelude's frame and suspension was designed for economy, comfort and afordibility. The Viper's was designed specifically for racing. The prelude's Chassis is not rigid at all. I own an accord and i know that hondas handle well for cars in their class, but the chassis are not stiff at all and i can feel mine bending when i take a turn ot high speeds. Vipers dont have any of those charisteristics!! Viper bodies are also desighed for downforce and performance. The prelude's body was not desighed for going 160mph on a front strech. That car would float and drift so bad it would be near uncontrollable. So dont tell me ur prelude has 549hp because it doesn't and dont tell me it can beat a viper because it can't....well, maybe in fuel economy!!! You guys claim u own Vipers but you are all kids trying act like wealthy adults.

I would like to defend the honda. Everything was fine until you insult the Honda. First of by owning a viper or any american car you are autamaticaly signed up for a season pass at your local mechanic.
I own a Honda Prelude. It's twin turbos can probably rip your viper a new a hole. It is toped off at 7000 rpm at 549hp. All of this hourse power is coming out of a four cylinder. I do love vipers but I would never rank it above prelude
Honda also has a new car it is called the sc2000 this car is rated at 220hp this is amazing because it comes from a 2.0 4 cylinder it is the car with most hp per liter of any car, not to mention it has a 9000rpm redline.

Lets'keep it real. I love exotic cars and to tell the truth, out of all of them the viper is one of the most promising. Why? Because everyone that is into exotics would know that the viper you can currently buy is a watered down version of the prototype, which was over 600 horses. Now you talk about Maclaren F1, it's a BMW engine topped out! No more room to modify (and a million dollars). Ferrari's 355 has the high redline, so it can ride a gear for a while and beat you in between shifts.But the viper has so much room for modification that if you put the money in it that you pay for a ferrari you would bust all of the above in the ass. When I get my viper I plan on dressing her up with two paxton superchargers (that would put me in the high 700's or mid 800 horses department!). A ferrari or MaClaren owner would be a dam fool to race me. The only car that is a worry is Porshe! Because they have upgrades out the ass. If any of you remember when Mario Andretti tested the top exotics, he loved the lamborghini Diablo the most but said that the viper venom 600 was the purest race car out of the bunch. The only problem was the brakes (they caught on fire, so the viper got a lower rating). And he said that out of the turns the venom was back at top speed quicker than all of the cars. As for the F1 he said "it just seem like it just keeps excellerating", not to say it's speed was unlimited, but it took a while to get to it's top speed. Now, you can talk all the shit that you want to, but these are comments coming for a legend in auto racing not some bifocal wearing computer geek that's friends with Bill Gates and can afford a Maclaren F1. The cars he driven are faster than any of these exotics could ever be!! I trust his opinion. So some of the exotics out of the box can beat the viper but when it's modified to the hilt, WATCH OUT!!! CAUSE MOPAR IS ON THE PROWL!!!

For the people who say that a viper is a pos i dont know what the f**k is wrong with you! It is not slow, just because a pos Holda can do a 1/4 mile in 8 secs dont mean jack, cause when it gets to higher speeds its garbage! my friend owns a 491hp Civic and he does the 1/4 in 11.4 secs!
thats because he has no tourque, when your lookin for real power go for a viper, and if you fix up a viper you would kill anything that 8.1L beast could eat any porsche alive if it was tuned properly. There's a lot of people who judge a car by max speed and horsepower. Myself, I judge it on style, and originality. The Viper rules! All those foreign cars are is a nice body w/ a big engine, nothing else. The Viper is sheer genius! Look at the McLaren F1,( don't get me wrong, that car kicks butt) it has a 6.8 liter ( I believe thats the size) V-12, the Vipers got a 8.0 V-10. It may not have as much horsepower, but it has more raw power than any other car. I bow down to team-Viper and say " You guys kick butt!"

LA Street Race Final Update

We were on the Pole for the 1 hour Enduro on Monday.

In the practice session that morning Erik was scrubbing in some new tires, had four laps into them, tried to go around a slower car, got in some marbles and put it into the wall.

They spent the entire day repairing the car. It needed a new sterring rack, ball joints, and some straightening.

The front facia was obliterated and Claylon showed up with Jose and they patched back together the entire front. When we put the hood back on it was pop riveted down with straps.

Only bad news, Erik got onto the track after 28 laps had gone by in the race. He lapped the winner twice while out there, but there was no way for him to catch up.

Well, that's racing. :-)

LA STREET RACE UPDATE

We finished 1st again to day in a short sprint race.

We bested our time of yesterday with a 54.42 second lap which puts us on the pole for the One Hour Trophy Enduro tomorrow.

We're looking good but the real question will probably be if our differential will hold up to one hour of racing without the seals blowing out of it.

We'll find out tomorrow at 4:15 PM PDT - that's when the race is scheduled, but these schedules usually run late so it could be 5 PM too.

Anyone in the LA area should come down tomorrow - buy a ticket for $10 and have the time of your life watching a NASCAR RACE, Featherlite Pick Up Truck Race, Indy Card Race and then our Pro Series Enduro Race.

Come down the 110 freeway and get off at Martin Luther King Boulevard - go West three lights to Menlo and turn right - you can't miss it. For $20 you can sit in the bleachers.

Lot's of Vendors are there with all kinds of racing toys.

Come on out stop at our Pit - we're the only Viper there - you can't miss us. It's all white.

LA STREET RACE

Well after the first day of qualifying we're on the pole for the first race today around 4 PM PDT.

We ran a 55.986 lap which was the fastest time of the day including the Indy cars so we're pretty happy.

The NASCARS will run today and we'll see if they can beat our lap time.

Erik is very pleased with the set up of the car and the only problem we see is that the differential is leaking under high temperatures.

So come on out today and see us race!!

I wish people would research their comments and so call facts
before the post them. The F-1 did 217mph when tested by
Mario Andretti in the August '98 issue of either Motor Trend
or Road & Track. I am positve about the date,not the mag.
It did 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. Those feats
are both very impressive but that is still a far cry from the
claim of 0-60 in 2.8 sec and 240 mph top speed. I am fortunate
enough to own a 1998 Viper. I wouldn't mind owning a F1 but unfortunately
I am not an heir to Warren Buffet or Paul Allen, so I guess
I'll just have to live my car.

i was watching this race once...the viper started in last...there was a porsche and 7 vettes infront of him...the porche in 2nd...out of 32 laps, only 32...the viper came out in first with 17 seconds to spare with the porche behind it...it just rocked their little worlds!! i dont know how

intake, headers, exhaust, etc), which is my fourth Viper, I
can tell you that my Viper does very well on the autocross
track against 355's, 911 Turbo's, NSX, and Vettes. The only
one of the aforementioned cars that'll give me a run for my
money is the Ferarri 355. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that
certain 911 Tuner Cars could do great on an autocross track.
I just have never seen a 911 Ruf CTR-2 or GT-1 run. Now as
far as the 1/4 mile run, I have been 75/80 and CCRW( local
drag tracks) and had a dozen cars turn better times than
me. I once had a Vega woop me in a 1/4 mile. Grant it, he
had a 500 cid engine under the hood, but when it is all said
and done, his car is still a Vega that cannot take a curve
at more than 10MPH. P.S., For all you guys that are hailing
the Hennessey Vipers, take it from me(a former '95 550 owner
with 373 gears) those Hennesseys are a pain in the ass to
drive(Sorry John!) because you are always spinning your tires
everywhere, mostly when you don't want to do so.

There are a lot of people in here that have posted about other cars being cheaper and faster than the Viper. Tell me this? What car sold in America can you find, stock, that will toast a Viper GTS Coupe. Nothing, if at all. Even if you do manage to find a car that can beat it, take them on a road course. The Viper will roach it. The Viper has the best of both worlds. It's insanely fast and it can handle like you wouldn't believe. Why do you think the car of choice for FIA GT racing is the Dodge Viper? Cause its the best. If it wasn't for the weight restrictions on the Viper GT2 cars, they would compete with GT1 cars which is supposed to be out of its class. I don't care what anyone one else says, for what you get with the Viper and for the price you can't beat that. Oh yeah, VETTE'S SUCK MY ASS!

Just the other day i was sittin at a light and a acura intergra lookin gay pulls up next to me (gay lookin prime rims, stupid muffler tip, ground effects, some sort of super charger or turbo, and lime green paint job). He tried to race my stock 99 Dakota 5.9R/T. he revved his little pussy 4 banger, I dropped the automatic into neutral and fed the truck a little gas and drowned out that little rice eatin piece of shit. He said "fuck you let's race" and i agreed. the light turned green and my borla exhaust screamed off the line. he started to take off and was standin on those first few gears. The funny part was that his car with all those after market parts still couldent even touch me. i have a 4 speed automatic and i burned his ass good and at the next light i laughed at him and threw a dealership card in his window that pointed him in the direction of dodge dealership. Now the moral of this story is, remember you may think that those eclipses, integras, celicas, civics, and supras are so fuckin cool with all that turbo, but turbo is just a compensation for a weak ass rice eatin, recycled salmon can, shit box that was designed by a buch of slat eyed bastards that are still feelin the effects of nuclear radiation when we fucked 'em up in WWll. all the money you invest into that expensive foreign car is goin back to that foreign economy. if you like supporting that economy then get the fuck out of my country. Mike from Pottstown, PA., you hit it right on the dime man! But seeing all these "wanna be's" in here trying to say a stock Civic can do 9's in the 1/4, I just had to put my 2 cents in. So to mention, all of you wodnerful Civic fans that say a stock Civic is faster, I'd like to recall that in a current issue of "Sport Compact Car Magazine" says that the fastest FWD car in existance only does little below 9's if I'm not mistaken. Well tell me if your stock Civic does 9's already, why don't you make it better and beat the record?? Folks, the Viper is an awesome car. And like Mike said, there's always going to be someone out there bigger, better, and faster. The McLaren is very fast, and depending on the driver and conditions, it probably is faster than the Viper. But bang for the buck? Sorry guys, gotta go with the Viper. A car that comes with gold plated titanium tools is nice, but who gives a shit? You'll still use your Snap-On or Craftsman tools in your box causr those are so expensive. Let's face it, in everyday road conditions, neither car is practical. (Not saying I wouldn't like to oen either one.) You'll only use about an 1/8 of the speedometer. Some maybe more, but you can have your tickets. I like speed, and I plan on racing... but save your bullshit for the bars, and get some sense into ya'll. By the way, friend of mine has a VTEC Civic, and I kick it's ass with me '92 3000GT VR-4. It's NOT faster than a Viper, let alone GTS-R or any Venom. Put your cars where your mouths are gentleman, no one believes talk.

Man, someone please put this board out of its misery, or at least get an administrator. First time here and I think it's going to be my last. 1. Almost any car can be made to beat any other car. Speed is money, the more money you have the fastr you can go.

2. Dont expect to run 10s in a juiced, forced fed jap 4-banger, without stripping the hell out of it, buying a flatbed, and hiring pit crew for the track.

3. For the jackass who said a ZR1(and its Lingenfelter) or a steeda mustang can beat a viper....think again. Maybe a first year viper, but not anything current.

4. And as for the F1, yes it is faster. Not quicker, but yes faster. And for all you ignorant ass holes out there, there is a difference between fast and quick. For the money though, there is no comparison. Hell for 50K I could build a car that would run circles around either. But in defense of the viper....just think if you put that extra $840,000 into the viper. Doubt you could spend it all, but for that money you could do just about anything. So before you start talking garbage about the F1, try thinking a little.

5. And contrary to popular belief on this board...2+2 really does add up to 4.

Well it doesn't matter Mclaren to Viper. You may like the Mclaren, we all have different opinions. Also who is going to go 247 miles an hour (Which I doubt the Mclaren could pull that before shutting down)? 650 horses is good, but for what you pay to get a Mclaren it's not worth. I'm sure Hennessey Motor Sports and Dodge could put a car out that is the same price as a Mclaren which is better than a Mclaren. However Mclaren even admits that their car needs a lot of service and maintenance. If a Mclaren and Viper ever raced, meaning a full race, the Mclaren would burn out after awhile.
